Advanced data collection and review system eases critical business process for publisher.
Marquis Who's Who is one of the oldest and most prestigious publishers of biographical directories in the world. Founded in 1899, Marquis has published more than 20 highly successful directories (such as Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in American Law). These directories chronicle the achievements of leaders in virtually every field of endeavor and serve as trustworthy sources for journalists and researchers seeking accurate biographical information. In addition, the company's on-line database enables users to search through more than 1-million biographical entries.
Webb redesigned the site to enhance the effectiveness of Marquis' on-line presence, making it easier for customers to learn about and securely place orders for Marquis Who's Who products. An enhanced navigation system enables visitors to efficiently browse through hundreds of site pages. In addition, Webb created an animated "Flash demonstration" to promote the various features of Marquis' on-line database.
An important aspect of Webb's work for Marquis was the development of an on-line biographical data collection and review system that has saved the company thousands of hours each year by streamlining a critical part of their product development cycle. In the past, detailed bios were submitted via hand-written, multi-page forms mailed or faxed in to Marquis. This meant that the data on each form (200+ fields) had to be keyed in for each bio.
The system built by Webb enables the on-line collection, storage, commenting, and review of biographical data. The system also features advanced administrative and reporting features, enabling Marquis to measure the effectiveness of various mailings, ads, and E-mail campaigns sent out to prospective "listees." Tracking links embedded into E-mails automatically direct the invited "biographee" to the appropriate on-line bio form. Also, the on-line forms can be filled out in multiple sessions easing the process. To date, the system has been used to process more than 51,000 new biographical submissions.
